A 4G sim card will not work in a 2G phone.
Let’s get down to it
Most newer phones come with a 4G LTE connection. However, some older phones may only have a 2G connection. If you have an older phone, a 4G LTE sim card may not work in it. If you have a newer phone, a 2G sim card may work in it.

Can You Still Use a 2g Phone
Most of America’s largest carriers have already shuttered their 2G service or plan to soon. AT&T stopped servicing its 2G network back in 2017. Verizon Wireless phased out their 2G CDMA network at the end of 2020. Sprint sunsetted their 2G CDMA network in December of 2021.
2G service is used for voice calls and text messages. 2G networks are not as good as 3G or 4G networks for making phone calls or sending text messages. 2G networks are also not as good as 5G networks for making phone calls. However, 2G networks are still good for making text messages.
Why Does My Phone Switch From 4g to 2g
When a phone has the VoLTE function disabled, it can only use the 2G/3G network during phone calls. When a phone is in a call, it will stay on the 2G/3G network until the call is ended. After the call is ended, the phone will automatically switch back to the 4G network.

Can a 5g Sim Card Work in a 3g Phone

Will a 3g Sim Work in a 2g Phone
If you put a 3G SIM card in a 2G device, it will only work if there is a working 2G network in your neighborhood, not because 3G networks support 2G devices. 3G networks use a different frequency than 2G networks, so the 3G SIM card will not work in a 2G device.
Are 3g Phones Obsolete
Dear Reader,
As of February 2022, AT&T will have shutdown its 3G network. Verizon will have shutdown its 3G network by December 31, 2022. T-Mobile will have shutdown Sprint’s 3G CDMA network by March 31, 2022 and Sprint’s 4G LTE network by June 30, 2022.
This means that 3G phones are no longer supported by the three major providers. However, 4G LTE phones are still supported by all three providers. So, if you still have a 3G phone, you can keep using it until it’s shut down or until 4G LTE becomes available in your area. However, if you want to upgrade to a 4G LTE phone, you’ll need to either switch providers or purchase a new phone.
Closing words
If you have a 4G phone and want to use it with your existing 2G phone, you will need to buy a new phone.
