TeleTYping is a way for people who can’t hear speech to communicate with others. There are different types of teleTYping equipment, each with its own name: TTY, TDD, and TT.

TT is the most common type of teleTYping equipment, and it’s used by people who have lost their hearing completely. When someone is using TT, they type what they want to say into a text box on the screen, and a computer reads the text to them.

TDD is similar to TT, but it allows people to talk to other people through text chat. With TDD, two people who want to talk to each other must first set up a chat session. Then, each person who wants to talk sends a text to the other person, and the other person reads it aloud. This is a faster way to communicate than TT, because you don’t have to wait for the person on the other end to type everything out.

Finally, TTY is the oldest type of teleTYping equipment, and it’s used by people who still have some hearing. With TTY, people type what they want to say into a text box, and a computer reads the text to them as if it was a phone call.

I receive calls from one person who uses TTY when calling me. I can see the little phone icon by the number. Neither of us have hearing or speech problems.
What could be the reason they are using tty?
